Dr. Alice Fong is a licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) who graduated from Bastyr University, a 4-year accredited graduate program, after receiving her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is the owner of Calvert Natural Medicine in Prince Frederick, MD. Naturopathic medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention using natural methods in combination with the rigors of modern science. Rather than trying to mask symptoms of a condition with pharmaceuticals, naturopathy tries to find the root cause, remove those barriers to health, and help facilitate the body’s inherent ability to restore and maintain optimal wellbeing.
The state of Maryland recently passed it’s licensure laws for naturopathic doctors in March 2016, increasing the scope of practice for the profession. A licensed naturopathic doctor can diagnose, prevent, and treat health condition using patient education and natural therapies, as well as order blood work and lab tests. Dr. Alice does utilize various specialty labs including food allergy testing, hormone testing, micronutrient testing, and heavy metal testing. In addition, she takes the time to get know you and listen to you. Her initial naturopathic consultations are about 90 minutes long. Dr. Alice strongly believe that the mind-body connection is an essential component of health and uses many mindfulness techniques such as biofeedback and hypnotherapy to help patients. Although she treats a wide array of conditions, the most common ones include digestive problems, food allergies, weight issues, stress, and anxiety.
Dr. Alice Fong is originally from Northern California but lived in Seattle for over a decade before moving to Southern Maryland. She discovered there is a great need for naturopathic medicine in this area and is excited to help people live happier and healthier here in this community.
